Community Resource Expo planned in Foley

FOLEY, Ala. — When last year’s inaugural “gathering” took place in Heritage Park in an effort to acquaint citizens with local organizations and services available to them it was billed as a kind of get-to-know. It was called just that — “The Gathering” - and it was held in June.

Now, almost a year later, the event has a new name: “Community Resource Expo.”

That isn’t the only thing that has changed.

“This is a great Expo of resources for citizens, especially during these rough economic times,” said Police Chief David Wilson in speaking of the May 16 Expo to be held again in Heritage Park.

The purpose of the Community Resource Expo is to let citizens see what their community can do for them. Anyone interested in an organization or service will be able to speak with a representative and ask questions and get answers. The interaction of citizens with organizations and service-providers is the goal of the Expo, according to organizers.

The event, which will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on May 16, is sponsored by the City of Foley.

“There will also be children’s activities, including a large water slide,” Wilson said.

Last year’s event included everything from Foley Police and Fire departments to the YMCA and Cancer Society to first aid instruction and Baldwin County Mental Health.

Some concessions will also be part of the Expo activities.
