FAIRHOPE, Ala. - A workshop on composting will be held Aug. 6 in Fairhope.

Members and friends of the Local Food Production Initiative are invited to Composting 101: A Workshop on Composting on Saturday, Aug. 6, from 8 a.m.-9:30 am.

Presented by Marilyn Douglass, the workshop is free and will be held at the Homestead Village Community Garden, which is located behind Homestead's administrative complex and ballroom.

Gardeners will learn how to start and maintain a future composting operation for the Fairhope community gardens at Homestead Village and on Summit Street, so all community gardeners should attend if possible, according to the news release. Those with home gardens are also encouraged to attend.

Attendees are encouraged to bring separate bags of leaves and grass clippings if you have them.  In addition to learning about making compost, the workshop will include a tour of recently installed fruit and berry bushes.  Marilyn will discuss the uses of compost and mulch for our edible landscaping.
