GULF SHORES, AL - Phoenix Gulf Shores is soaring to the sky on West Beach Boulevard, but construction is booming in both cities. Gulf Shores has issued 178 single-family resident building permits this year and Orange Beach has issued 64. In addition Gulf Shores has issued several permits for apartments and several more proposed buildings have been to the city's planning commission. The Hampton Inn in Gulf Shores and The Tides in Orange Beach opened this year, Springhill Suites by Marriot and Indigo hotel are under construction in Orange Beach, and Comfort Inn has asked to build a six-story, 98-unit hotel on East Beach Boulevard in Gulf Shores.
