SPANISH FORT, Ala.—Spanish Fort High senior tennis player Katie Cooke signed with Mississippi College in Clinton, Miss. Individually, Cooke was 6A Section 2, No. 1 seed singles champion and the No. 1 doubles champion with her doubles partner Jenna Prater. Cooke helped lead the Toros to the 6A Section 2 runner-up spot in 2015 as a team and advance to the AHSAA state tournament. The Toros finished eighth at the state out of 16 teams that qualified.
"I have enjoyed coaching Katie for the past two years,” said Spanish Fort tennis coach Avery Miller. “She is an incredible athlete and a pleasure to coach. She reminds me a lot of myself as a student athlete so it is fun to watch her compete. Katie always gives 110 percent on and off the court. She has always been a positive leader on the team and a great teammate to all the other girls. I cannot wait to see what Katie can accomplish at Mississippi College and they are lucky to have her. Congratulations and good luck."
The Mississippi College Lady Choctaws compete in the Gulf South Conference. They advanced to the semifinals of the National Christian College Athletic Association Tournament this year.
