DAPHNE, Ala. — Beginning Friday, April 30 at 8 a.m., members of the Daphne Police Department will be sitting on top of the Wal-Mart store located on Highway 98 in Daphne in support of this year's Alabama Special Olympics. The "Cops on Top" event, as it is known, will end Friday evening at 6 p.m.

For 10 hours DPD officers and employees will be on the roof of the building in an effort to raise funds for the Special Olympics organization, which sponsors competitive events each year for individuals with intellectual disabilities.

There will also be officers and employees on the ground throughout the event to accept donations from citizens able to give.

The Daphne Police Department is but one of many law enforcement agencies across Alabama that will be participating in "Cops on Top." Last year law enforcement officers in the state raised over $95,000 during this event. Worldwide, more than 85,000 officers dedicate themselves to helping make Special Olympics a success.
