After requesting information on an analysis of adding a traffic signal at Cotton Bayou in Orange Beach, ALDOT responded by saying the city’s portion, which would require a resolution by the city council, would total $60,000.
In addition, a crosswalk at the Cotton Bayou beach access and boat ramp would cost the city $30,000.
Kit Alexander, Engineering and Environmental Services Director for the City of Orange Beach said that officials had a very productive meeting with Vince Calametti with ALDOT.
“One of the things that we talked about was that because it is connected to state properties, he would investigate whether there was state money to offset or possibly pay for the city’s portion,” Alexander said.
“I think we’ll need to just move along as we are now,” said Mayor Tony Kennon. “We just don’t have the money in the budget for that right now.”
Because this was a community request and a council initiative, moving forward with plans would require action on part of the city council.
In addition, Mayor Kennon has sent a request for the evaluating of the reduction of speed limits for Canal Road, west of Hwy. 161.
