MAGNOLIA SPRINGS, Ala. — Magnolia Springs residents traveling along Cougill Avenue now have a smoother ride.
During Tuesday’s Magnolia Springs Council meeting, Councilman Bob Holk announced that the street was paved last week.
“We’re getting ready to put the signage up,” he said.
That includes the 15 miles-per-hour speed limit, stop signs and warning of a narrow lane.
Cougill Avenue resident Virginia Stone brought the issue of the road’s state of disrepair to the Council in January, saying she counted as many as 24 potholes in the gravel lane.
That’s because during Tuesday’s regular workshop of the Magnolia Springs Town Council,
In February, the Council voted 4-2 in favor of paving Cougill at a width of 14 feet. Mayor Ken Underwood and Councilman Tom Webb cast the dissenting votes on the project. The vote was taken after considerable discussion among the Council and from attending town residents. Those debates centered around the width of paving and the merit of the paving itself.
In March, Holk confirmed that R&S Paving was set to pave the residential road and add two speed bumps, a $27,131 project that is now complete.
