Cougill to get paved soon

MAGNOLIA SPRINGS, Ala. — It won’t be long before the potholes along Cougill Avenue in Magnolia Springs are just a memory.

That’s because during Tuesday’s regular workshop of the Magnolia Springs Town Council, Councilman Bob Holk confirmed that R&S Paving is set to pave the residential road and add two speed bumps.

“We’re on their list to start work on Cougill,” he said, explaining that the cost of the project would be $27,131.

In February, the Council voted 4-2 in favor of paving Cougill at a wideth of 14 feet. Mayor Ken Underwood and Councilman Tom Webb cast the dissenting votes on the project. The vote was taken after considerable discussion among the Council and from attending town residents. Those debates centered around the width of paving and the merit of the paving itself.

Cougill Avenue resident Virginia Stone brought the issue of the road’s state of disrepair to the Council in January, saying she counted as many as 24 potholes in the gravel lane.
