BAY MINETTE — The Baldwin County Commission has appinted John W. Perrett Jr. from Franklin, Tenn. as the new Baldwin County emergency management director.

Perrett will start Aug. 22, at a salary of $87,000 during his initial contract period of Aug. 22 through Oct. 9. Beginning Oct. 10, his salary will be raised to $90,915 due to a cost of living increase.
The County Commission also agreed to pay moving expenses for Perrett to relocate to Baldwin County. This contract will be reviewed by the Baldwin County Commission along with other appointed positions at the first regular Baldwin County Commission meeting in December.
Perrett currently serves as the Material Services Program Manager for Carlex, formerly Zeledyne Automotive (Ford Motor Co.). Perrett also serves as a captain in the U.S. Navy Supply Corps and serves as the U.S. Navy’s Emergency Preparedness Liaison Officer to the state of Tennessee.
He is a graduate of Baldwin County High School and the University of Alabama, where he earned a bachelor of science degree in finance. He also holds a master of science degree in strategic studies, which he earned at Maxwell Air Force Base.
The County Commission also extended the appointment of Interim Emergency Management Director Shannon Spivey to Aug. 22.
