DAPHNE, Ala.—During the Daphne High School Girls Service Club’s Beauty Walk Saturday, 22 contestants competed in skits and poise following a Friday interview; all vied for top beauty recognition among their class, but only one senior would be named Queen Daphne.

And that was Maren Cross, who also won for best skit, Harry Potter.

Other prizes are as follows:

Saturday’s pageant, themed “Hooray for Hollywood,” had contestants create movie-related skits and costumes for one part of the competition. The second part was judged on poise, where smiling girls glided in evening gowns as they graced the stage.

Cross—escorted by Ryan Black—is the 2008-2009 Mobile Symphony Youth Orchestra president and runs track. She is the captain of the DHS swim team and plans to attend the University of Alabama, where she will major in international studies with a second language of German and a minor in Spanish.

White—escorted by Austin Hopkins (only seniors had individual escorts)—is a member of DHS’s Student Government Association and dances at BayPointe Dance Academy. She will attend Faulkner State Community College in the fall, then plans to transfer to the University of Alabama at Birmingham to major in radiology.

Johnson,  a National Honor Society member and yearboook staffer, said she likes fishing with her dad, scrapbooks, traveling and tennis.

Ginn likes drawing, baking, reading, sewing with her mother and shopping with her sister. Her favorite movie quote is from “A Cinderella Story”: “Never let the fear of striking out keep you from playing the game.”

Moore is in the DHS color guard and plays Blast soccer and DHS soccer; she enjoys singing in the church choir.

Weiman—escorted by Arjun Jadhav—likes reading, going to ballets, plays and concerts. She also enjoys going to the beach and playing with her puppy, Bella. She plans to attend Faulkner State Community College after graduation.

Byron likes sewing, singing, skateboarding and running cross-country. She also likes cleaning, going to church, giving advice and helping others.

Also participating in Saturday’s pageant were Emily Nix, Kristyn Love, Charis Singleton, Caitlin Jackson, Alex Gomez, Heather Powell, Jennifer Malone, Holly Wolfrom, Katie Hafner, Kate Matchett, Erin Dowdy, Laura Akins, Alicia Blackwell and India Eugene.

Other escorts were Drew Burroughs, Gavin Colquette, Tommy Curry, Jonathon Howze and Trenere Johnson.
