‘Dancin’ in the Streets’ meanders down the bluff

Page & Palette Foundation’s Fifth Annual Dancin’ in the Streets, originally set to electrify De La Mare Avenue in downtown Fairhope, will now be held at the beautiful Fairhope Municipal Pier Park.

The event is set for Saturday, Oct. 27, from 6-10 p.m. Everyone is invited to don their leather jackets or poodle skirts and rock the night away to the sounds of “Grease.”

The yearly street party offers something for the entire family, from a “Grease”-themed band and huge silent auction for adults, to a sock hop and karaoke for the kids.

Admission is $25 in advance, $35 at the gate and covers the entertainment, diner-style food and beverages, including beer and wine.

Community support of Dancin’ in the Streets is provided by Terry Thompson Chevrolet, Brown & McCool OBGYN and Baldwin County Medical Alliance.

Karin Wilson, president of Page & Palette, notes that the merchants of downtown Fairhope donate the majority of the items up for bid in the silent auction.

“We are fortunate to have such supportive business owners who willingly give to the community. Their generosity makes it possible for events such as Dancin’ in the Streets to succeed and enables all of the downtown merchants to give back so much to the community,” she said.

The proceeds from this year’s event will benefit Fairhope Public Schools, L.I.F.T. and Outward Bound. Wilson said since its inception, the Page & Palette Foundation has been honored to present close to $93,000 — much of which was raised through Dancin’ in the Streets — to the Fairhope Educational Enrichment Foundation (FEEF) to support numerous teacher/student grants.

“Because of the many educational entities that are worthy of contributions and exposure, we feel that it is time to afford others the same future opportunity given to FEEF over the past four years,” stated Wilson. “We are hopeful that our contributions to these groups will enable them to grow in the same capacity as FEEF.”
