BAY MINETTE, Ala. — Homecoming day, Oct. 19, was an excellent day for Baldwin County High School!

They started off the evening with the Homecoming Parade, which had been postponed to that date due to inclement weather. After the parade, the BCHS Tigers, roared their way to victory defeating the Satsuma gator’s 36-21.

With the win, they are now able to go to play-offs, which is something that the 2008 seniors have not been able to witness in their high school career. Congratulations Tigers, you have worked so hard, and truly deserve it!

During half-time, the Homecoming Court girls were recognized. Kayland Lamar, who was honored as the Homecoming queen last year, passed down her crown to the new Homecoming Queen, Danielle Lafon.

Congratulations Danielle, and all of the girls participating. You all did a wonderful job, too bad six crowns could not be given out to each senior, because you all deserve one! After the game, the Homecoming Dance took place. It was a great way to celebrate the victory.

The AP Government and Economics class are searching for veterans to participate in the Veteran’s Day Assembly that will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 14. If you would like to participate or if you know someone who may, please contact Misty Morries at mmorries@bcbe.org. You may also call the front office at (251) 937-2341 to contact her.

EcoAction Club has been recycling around the school. Every Friday, the members gather the paper from each teacher, and then they take the paper to a nearby recycling bin. It is hoped that the club one day will have their own recycling bin at Baldwin County High School.

Friends’ of Exceptional Students is a club that allows students to interact and befriend special students that attend their school. The special students will be hosting a Halloween party for the FES members on Halloween day during their lunch wave. The FES members will host a party for the special students on the next get together, which will probably be Thanksgiving. The members have ordered their club T-shirts.

The club is separated into three groups. Each group meets on a different day of the week. The three presidents are Danielle Kelly, Allyson Stinson, and Katelyn McCelland. The three vice-presidents are Jasmine Straughter, Brandi Gentri, and Ariel Autumn. The three secretaries are Katrina Hayden, Kylie Boutwell, and Ashley Jones.

The FCCLA members are definitely learning a lot about life in general. A Lighthouse representative came and spoke to the club members about abuse, and not only the physical but mental harm it can cause. FCCLA is also supporting breast cancer awareness. They have been cross-stitching, making picture quilts, and french seam pillowcases. They are also going over house plans in the food lab.

It has come to our attention that a policy has been made regarding the maximum amount on any received checks. All checks written toward BCHS may not exceed $150. You may write multiple checks for anything that does go over this amount.

An example for this is the senior ads. A majority of senior ads are more than $150, so if you decide to buy one that does go over this price, please write multiple checks. Your checks will not be accepted if they are more than $150. Remember that this is for checks written for any payments regarding BCHS.

The National Anthem Choir meets on Tuesday mornings at 7 in the BCHS choir room. It is open to anyone who would like to come and listen and join the fun!

All seniors need to make sure to check their emails for scholarship opportunities. Mrs. Warfield is sending emails to all the available addresses for any scholarships that she may receive. If you do not have email access, check the counselors’ office for any financial aid that you are eligible

Key Club will be collecting Coke tabs for the Ronald McDonald House throughout the year. Last year, they received $7,000 from recycled Coke tabs. Bring your tabs by Mrs. Owen or Mrs. Miller’s room.

On Halloween day, students will have the opportunity to give blood. Vampires are not the only ones who need blood to survive. There are thousands of people everyday whose lives are saved from someone giving blood. BCHS will have their first blood drive for the 2007-2008 school year. The BCHS Key Club will be sponsoring the drive. Make sure to mark your calendars for this event! You would be able to save three lives with one unit of blood that you donate!
