Daphne adopts Eclectic, Ala., in tornado relief effort

DAPHNE, Ala. — The Jubilee City will aid Eclectic, Ala., with recovery efforts after dozens of devastating storms spawned tornadoes that killed at least 200 people across the country Wednesday.

“Eclectic, population 1,162, located about 100 miles south east of Birmingham in Elmore County, was impacted greatly by Wednesday’s devastating tornadoes which touched down in this small rural Alabama town killing and injuring several,” states a news release the city submitted to BaldwinCountyNow.

Daphne’s leaders chose Eclectic because the city has ties to Councilman Derek Boulware and a Daphne firefighter.

“Although details are still being worked out, Daphne residents are encouraged to ‘adopt’ the residents of Eclectic and be there as they try to pick up the pieces and rebuild,” the release stated.

Gov. Robert Bentley today signed a proclamation calling for a statewide “Day of Prayer” on Sunday to remember those who died in Wednesday’s storms.

Federal disaster aid will be available in addition to local efforts, Bentley’s office reported Thursday.
