With several coyote sightings being reported by residents across Daphne, the city is looking to resolve their concerns.
During a meeting on May 19, Daphne City Council approved a $4,000 contract with Wildlife Solutions Inc. for coyote removal and control services.
Mayor Robin LeJeune said around 30 residents living in the Olde Towne Daphne area have raised their concerns over sightings of coyotes. After the resolution was approved, LeJeune said professional wildlife control personnel from the company should be in town resolve the issue within the next couple of weeks. He did not specify what would happen to the coyotes after they were captured.
Some residents have suspected the coyotes are at fault for several cat disappearances and even the death of at least one dog, with some being able to capture them on camera.
Daphne is not the only community dealing with coyotes, with residents in Mobile also having reported spotting them.
LeJeune said this is only the second year the city has had to hire a coyote control service and warned residents to be on the lookout and to be aware of their surroundings when walking their pet or going outside, saying they can contact the police department if they suspect coyotes are causing a threat in the area.
