Daphne Arbor Day celebration a success

Posted

Feb. 26 wrapped up a busy month of Arbor Day celebration for the City of Daphne. The celebration began Feb. 7, with Mayor Fred Small reading the Arbor Day Proclamation at the City Council meeting. On Feb. 11, there was the fourth-grade tree-planting event at Daphne East Elementary School. Daphne High’s Future Farmers of America students wrapped 3,650 trees to be given to the citizens of Daphne.

Thanks to our local newspapers, the message got out to the public, helping make this another successful Arbor Day Celebration.  Daphne residents turned out, in mass, to participate in the celebration.  It was a beautiful day as the smiling crowd made their selections from 19 species of trees being distributed by the Daphne Beautification Committee, the Daphne Public Works Department and Riviera Utilities volunteers.

Thanks to Riviera Utilities for their monetary contribution and Daphne Utilities’ courtesy sausage dogs and bottled water. Starbucks brought free coffee and the Girl Scouts were present selling cookies. The Baldwin County Master Gardeners assisted with planting information.  A great day for everyone!

Thanks to all volunteers, organizations and businesses who worked together in making this another memorable Arbor Day experience for the City of Daphne.
