DAPHNE – The Daphne Trojans won their home opener Friday at Jubilee Stadium 38-21 against Satsuma High behind three rushing touchdowns from sophomore running back T.J. Yeldon.
Yeldon busted through the Satsuma defensive line with 10:30 to go in the first quarter, finding a wide open lane to his right only to trip over his own feet, picking up 20 yards in the process.
For his first score, Yeldon ran it in from five yards out with 9:03 to go to give the Trojans an early lead.
After a three-yard punt by Satsuma senior punter Shane Tooley, shanked off the side of his foot, Daphne senior running back Tyler Robertson rushed for a 12-yard touchdown to put the Trojans up 14-0.
With 1:14 to go in the first, Satsuma junior quarterback Anthony Johnston completed a 22-yard touchdown pass, closing the Daphne lead to 14-7.
Daphne sophomore kicker Brandon Roberts connected on a 29-yard field goal at 11:14 in the second to put the Trojans ahead by two touchdowns.
With 2:39 to go before half, Daphne quarterback Russ Mosley completed a 10-yard touchdown pass to give the Trojans a 24-7 lead at the break.
Johnston connected on a 15-yard touchdown pass at 9:46 in the third quarter, bringing the Gators within 10.
Yeldon ran from 15 yards out for his second score at 7:32 and picked up his third rushing touchdown from six yards out with 26.9 seconds left in the third.
Johnston completed a 68-yard touchdown pass as time expired to make it 38-21 after 3.
Before the game, Daphne High memorialized the victims of the Sept. 11 attacks on the World Trade Center.
The school’s JROTC unit presented the colors and were joined on the field by city leaders and emergency service personnel.
