DAPHNE – Alex Wilhelm stopped three McGill-Toolen shots in a triple-overtime shootout as Daphne defeated the Yellow Jackets 4-3 on Friday night.

Daphne coach Rick Andrew said his goalkeeper came up big for the Trojans in the win.

“Alex did a great job not only with his saves, but also with his punts,” Andrew said. “His punts put our team in fast break situations, turning our defense into offense. In the shootout he did what the keeper has to do.

“I keep telling our team that you have to practice believing the game will come down to a shootout, and tonight it happened.”

Olin Prosch scored two goals for the Trojans, and Israel Lamprakes had one for Daphne in regulation.

“This was a great win overall,” Andrew said. “It was a hard fought game between two good teams. I knew McGill has had some up and down games, but we knew they would come ready to play.”

The win, which kept Daphne unbeaten going into Tuesday’s game against rival Fairhope, was a 6A, Section 2 victory for the Trojans.

“We played hard, played well in the first half and were a little lackadaisical in the second,” Andrew said, “but McGill made some great shots.”

Daphne 4,

McGill-Toolen 1

The Daphne Lady Trojans picked up an important 6A, Section 2 win over McGill-Toolen 4-1 on Friday.

Maria Peters had two goals for Daphne in the win. Kayla Johnston and Chanel Elgin had one goal each for the Lady Trojans (7-3). The Trojans are 4-0 in Section 2 play.

“It was a huge win for us,” Daphne coach Rick Andrew said. “McGill is always tough, but I knew the girls could do it and they knew it, too. They just had to prove it. Our defense really picked it up for us when we needed it.”
