FOLEY – Daphne’s boys and girls teams defeated Foley in high school basketball on Friday at Foley High School.
Michael Hobbs led the Trojans with 28 points in an 81-55 win over the Lions.
Hobbs, who recently reached the 1,000 career point mark, scored 21 points in the first half and helped the Trojans build a 60-46 lead by the break.
“Michael has finally found his rhythm,” Daphne head coach Cedric Yelding said.
Foley’s Vincent Rodgers tied the game at 22 with a three-pointer early in the second period, but Hobbs responded with a two-point basket and gave the Trojans the lead. Daphne finished the first half on a 21-11 run and did not trail for the rest of the game.
“It is always good to get a win like this,” Yelding said. “We have been up and down all year, so it is good to get a solid win in the last game of the season. It will hopefully give us something to build on in practice before the area tournament. We have to focus on the things we need to do to make a run in the playoffs.”
Joe Menefee added 11 points for Daphne in the win.
Marcus Washington led Foley with 18 points, and Rodgers added nine for the Lions.
Foley held a Senior Night ceremony before the game. Lion seniors are Washington, Michael Holmes and Rick Prim.
Foley will play Fairhope in the 6A Area 3 tournament at Robertsdale on Friday at 7:30 p.m. Daphne will play McGill-Toolen in the first round of the 6A Area 4 tournament at Baldwin County, also at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

FOLEY – The Daphne Lady Trojans jumped out to an 11-4 lead to start the game and never trailed en route to a 51-38 win over Foley on Friday night.
Amber Yelding led Daphne with a game-high 26 points.
“Amber shot very well tonight,” Daphne coach Denise Grooms said. “When teams play the zone against you you have to make shots against them and we did. Amber has scored 20 or more in five of the last six games.”
After holding Foley to just four points in the first period, Daphne gave up just seven points in the second. The Lady Trojans led 26-11 at halftime behind 15 points from Yelding.
“We did a great job on (Foley’s) post players tonight,” Grooms said. “Last time we played they did a good job against us, but tonight we handled them well.”
Foley senior Misha Cambridge had 17 for the Lady Lions in the loss. Cambridge and Jessica Davis were honored in Senior Night ceremonies before the game.
Foley will play Fairhope in the Area 3 tournament at Robertsdale on Friday at 5 p.m. Daphne will play BCHS at McGill in the Area 4 tournament Thursday at 7:30.
