DAPHNE, Ala.—The city of Daphne will hold its annual Christmas parade at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.
The city planned to hold the event on Friday, but it was moved forward one day because the Daphne High School Trojans football team reached the football state championship on Friday night and will play in Auburn this Friday against Hoover.
The city council voted at the Nov. 15 council meeting to move the parade up one day if the Trojans did in fact make it to the state championship, which would allow residents to attend both events, and with the 47-14 win against Davidson the parade will happen on Thursday.
“It’s an outstanding accomplishment for the Trojans to go to the state championship,” Councilman Derek Boulware said. “I think moving our parade one day back to facilitate the needs for our football team is an appropriate thing to say the least.”
The parade travels through downtown Daphne—passing City Hall on Main Street— and will involve participation from around 65 groups. The parade will comprise people throwing plastic cups, candies and beaded necklaces from floats.
The event will comprise a 5:30 p.m. open house at City Hall and a tree lighting before the parade begins, which is different from years past. There will also be Santa Claus photos for kids and refreshments for the public. The event is free to attend.
The W.J. Carroll Intermediate choir will sing a medley of holiday favorites before the parade, including: “Deck The Halls,” “Christmas Tree Feud” and “We Wish You A Merry Christmas.”
