Daphne City Council honors second graduating IB class for its achievements

DAPHNE, Ala.—Daphne High School is one of 11 schools with an International Baccalaureate, or IB program, in Alabama. The program requires students to complete college-level coursework while in high school, pass tests, write a 4,000-word essay and complete at least 150 community service hours before graduation.

The city council recognized the students Monday during the council meeting and presented each student a proclamation from the city.

Joseph Roh, assistant principal at Daphne High School, said the students have put in a lot of hard work over the past four years to stay in the IB program and they aren’t finished yet.

“This will be our second graduating class. These students have gone through a rigorous four-year curriculum culminating in a month of tests they will take … we are excited to see where they go next,” Roh said.

“On behalf of the council, I would like to congratulate Daphne High School for having the International Baccalaureate Program,” August Palumbo said.

Daphne High School’s IB class of 2011 comprises 24 students, including: Robert Allen, Russell Beason, Matthew Brown, Nicholas Burt, O’Kesha Cooks, Kenneth Corley, Daphne Gautier, Alexandria Gomez, Amanda Hein, Jose Hernandez, Veronica Jackson, Cody John, Michael Miskovski, Tiffany Nabors, Dillon Nettles, David Ouellet, Dalton Pierce, Cherilyn Ramsey, Megan Rider, Hails Seawell, Kelvin Sinha, Breanna Smith, Lauren Walmsey and Perrin Windham.
