DAPHNE, Alabama — Daphne High School has announced that head football coach and Athletic Director Glenn Vickery will undergo pancreaticoduodenectomy surgery at UAB Medical Center on Monday morning.

“I was hoping to have the surgery done at the end of the football season but the medical staffs in Mobile and at UAB said it needs to be done now," Vickery said. He expects to stay at UAB eight days. Typically these patients lose 20% of their body week. "The last time I weighted 180 was in 1968 and was a junior in high school playing for my favorite coach, Ben Glover at B.C. Rain."

The Trojans battle Enterprise Friday night in Daphne for the Region 2 championship. Vickery said, “Our players and coaches are excited about the challenge of playing for the Region 2 championship and our big reunion with Coach Todd returning to Trojan Field.”

Coach Jacy Todd is returning to Daphne on Friday for the 2:30 pep rally and the game on Friday night before returning to Atlanta on Saturday.

“I know the God Lord above is going to take of me and I really wanted this week to be about Coach Todd and our players, not me.”

The interim head coach will be named on Saturday. Vickery could potentially miss the entirety of the state football playoffs during recovery from the surgery.
