DAPHNE, Ala. — The Daphne City Council voted 6-1 to approve around a $3.8 million road project for the 2011 fiscal year that will re-develop four areas.
Only council member Cathy Barnette voted down the motion, citing financial concern.
There are two phases in the Lake Forest subdivision, with work being done at Bay View Drive from Highway 98 for almost one and a half miles and at Ridgewood Drive and Lawson Road for one mile.
The project will also improve the intersection of Whispering Pines Road and U.S. Highway 98 with additional turn lanes and traffic signal upgrades. TimberCreek Boulevard, from Highway 181 to U.S. Highway 31, is the fourth project planned.
“We’re proposing to close to $3.8 million, but we haven’t decided where the money is going to come from,” Barnette said.
Other council members favored beginning the process.
“This is a necessary step,” Councilman Kelly Reese said, “but it’s also a very modest one.”
Barnette stated that if the council would go with the complete road re-development project, the entire city must be committed to see its completion.
“If we’re going to redo Lake Forest and add curb and gutters, we need to be prepared to do the rest of the city that same way,” she said.
City engineer, Hutchinson, Moore and Rauch LLC, will execute the full project design and prepare for the bid process for each of the four projects planned.
