After a seven game preliminary schedule to determine seeding among the 16 participating schools the Trojans entered the elimination round as the sixth overall seed. The Baldwin County Tigers entered as the 16 seed.

The Trojans played the tournament with backup quarterback John Quinnelly as starter Zach Morgan suffered from a sore elbow. Quinnelly more than made up for the absence of Morgan by leading the Trojans all the way to the finals after defeating two higher seeded teams.

“I was very proud of John; In the last minute we called him out and told him the games would be his,” Daphne head coach Glenn Vickery said. “I thought he performed really well, made a lot of good throws and was very confident.”

In the first round the Trojans outlasted 11 seed DeSoto Central 21-12. Quinnelly had a touchdown pass to Brandlin Perdue and had a long completion to C.J. Yelding which set up another touchdown for the Trojans.

After defeating Carver in the quarter finals 24-14 the Trojans faced Niceville in the semifinals. The Trojans outlasted Niceville 26-22. Yelding again came up big for the Trojans scoring with under a minute to take the lead. The Trojans would secure the win on a Tanner Lee interception to send the Trojans into the finals.

“Our team fought hard. It was 15 very good teams and we are proud of our kids for their efforts," Vickery said. “We have things we need to work on, but it’s still early. It’s what you look for at this time is effort and execution and we did a very good job at that.”

Before reaching the finals McGill–Toolen had victories over Charles Henderson, Catholic (Fla.), and Mandeville (La.).

The Finals between the Trojans and the Yellow Jackets began as a defensive struggle as both teams defenses held each other scoreless on their opening drives. Daphne was again stopped on their second drive of the contest.

The Jackets scored the game’s first touchdown on a pass from quarterback Harry Satterwhite to Tripp Cobb. From there the Jackets would not look back, they scored the game’s next nine points securing the championship by a final score of 22-4.

A pair of Yellow Jackets won awards for the tournament on Friday: Greg Thomas earned the award for the tournament’s top defender while Will Young earned the tournament’s Most Valuable Player award. With the win the Yellow Jackets secure a trip to Hoover to attend the National Select 7-on -7 tournament that will take place in July.

Baldwin County High school finished the tournament losing in the first round to top-seeded Catholic High school 21-14.
