DAPHNE, Ala. — The Daphne Future Farmers of America chapter celebrates National FFA Week Feb. 19-26. “Infinite Potential” is the theme this year and it embodies all the best about FFA members; from the most recognizable symbol of the organization — the blue corduroy jacket, a symbol of pride and tradition — to the bright future of agriculture and the traditions of leadership and hard work. More than a half-million members around the nation will participate in National FFA Week activities at the local and state levels.

The focus of National FFA Week is to tell America about the opportunities available for all youth. From its beginnings in 1928 as the Future Farmers of America, the National FFA Organization today reaches out to all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. FFA aims to develop character and leadership skills and prepare members for a lifetime of civic leadership and career success.

As a part of National FFA Week, Daphne FFA members observed, or will participate in, the following special events:

  • Blue Jacket Day, Feb. 20: Club members were allowed to wear FFA blue jackets to school.
  • Dairy Day, Feb. 23: Club will get together and eat ice cream to celebrate dairy farmers and cows.
  • Official Dress Day, Feb. 25: Club members will be allowed to wear FFA official dress to school.
  • FFA National Vice President Tiffany Rogers will speak at a Feb. 25 assembly for all FFA members. Along with Rogers, the FFA string band will perform and the group will have several guest speakers including Baldwin County Schools Superintendent Dr. Alan Lee. There will also be an antique tractor on display. FFA chapters from surrounding counties in the South District have also been invited to attend.

The Daphne FFA has set a plant sale for March 26 and April 2; both are set for 7t o 10am. We will be selling spring bedding plants and vegetables. National FFA Week is sponsored by Tractor Supply Company and Carhartt as a special project of the National FFA Foundation.  The Foundation is the fundraising arm of the National FFA and supports programs by working with sponsors to raise funds for scholarships that are awarded to outstanding members.
