DAPHNE, Ala.—Daphne High School held a pep rally on Thursday night in the City Hall parking lot to get the Jubilee City pumped for a state playoff quarterfinal match-up tonight against Wetumpka.

The DHS band and cheerleaders helped excite the crowd of parents and fans while team coaches and players spoke about the upcoming game.

“I can’t tell you how exciting this year’s team has been,” Assistant Coach Rick Andrew said. “We don’t want this to end. We need your support. There’s no better place than Daphne, Alabama.”

Andrew also told the crowd that he wanted a “playoff-like, electrifying atmosphere for Friday’s game,” because the state championship in Auburn will definitely be electrifying and he wanted the players to be ready for it if the Trojans do make it to the finals.

Head Coach Glenn Vickery introduced the four team-captains—all seniors—to the crowd.

Quarterback Russ Mosely, wide receiver Israel Lamprakes, linebacker Kevin Wilson, defensive back Zack Houston and Vickery spoke to the crowd, all mentioning that they planned to defeat their third round opponent and they wanted support from the Daphne residents and fans on Friday night.

“Wetumpka is a good team,” Vickery said. “We need all the help and support we can get to bring home a win and have a home game in the semi-finals.”

Around 100 people showed up to support the team and watched a slide show of the game against Blount three weeks ago. Vickery said the team catches a slideshow every week to get them ready to compete.

There was also a banner hung on the pillars of City Hall that read, “Third round, state bound.”

What does the coach think of all this team spirit?

“It shows playoff excitement and an atmosphere that’s always been here,” Vickery said.

The Trojans are undefeated this season, and Wetumpka only has one loss so far.
