DAPHNE, Ala.—Daphne High School will host an International Baccalaureate program informational meeting tonight for parents and students interested in the program at 6 p.m. in Trojan Hall.
“We do it every year about this time. It’s a meeting for parents and students interested in joining the program. It’s for the northern part of the county, because Spanish Fort students and Bay Minette students can come to DHS for the program. The other schools can go to Fairhope High School,” Joe Roh, DHS IB coordinator and assistant principal, said.
All grades are eligible for the program, but Roe said it’s better to start sooner.
“The best is if they join in the ninth grade,” he said. “If they come from Spanish Fort or Bay Minette in the ninth grade, they are eligible for all sports.”
DHS became authorized for the program—which is nationally recognized—in Dec. 2007. The meeting is for parents and students interested in the program for the upcoming 2011-2012 school year.
“It’s a worldwide program. It’s in over 131 countries and has been around since 1968,” Roh said.
