DAPHNE, Ala.—Daphne High School students will be participating in summer 2011 in a nine-day trip to Costa Rica to help endangered leatherback sea turtles.
The Costa Rica Sea Turtle Ecology Program will take place July 9 through July 17, 2011. Space is limited so interested students should contact Ms. Jaynes in room 158 for more information.
The trip will will include working to rescue and help the endangered sea turtles, zip-lining through the rain forest and rafting trips. The trip may be included on future college resumes and applications and DHS students are encouraged to get involved.
Ms. Jaynes has organized a fundraising opportunity that incorporates recycling into the ecology-oriented mix. Students, parents and the Daphne community are encouraged to donate their used printer ink cartridges and used cell phones by dropping them off at the school to be properly recycled. Ms. Jaynes will turn the donated, used items over to recycling centers that will pay cash for them. The recycling money raised will go toward helping students who will be participating in the trip to off-set some of the cost. Collection of the printer ink cartridges and cell phones has already begun and will continue throughout the rest of the school year.
Those intersted in donatng their used cartridges and cell phone, and for more information, please contact Ms. Jaynes at jjaynes@bcbe.org or call the school at 626-8787.
