DAPHNE, Ala. — Main Street in Olde Towne Daphne was blocked off Thursday as the Daphne High School Marching Band made its presence known.
Joining the troupe were the school’s drill squad and color guard, Trojans football players and the 12-member 2010 Homecoming Court.
The event was a prelude to Friday’s main event, when Daphne defeated Satsuma High School 37-7 in the annual Homecoming football game. During which, senior Sarah Reyner was crowned queen. A school dance was held Saturday at the Daphne Civic Center.
But before all that, people lined Olde Towne sidewalks Thursday to support the team, court and school — and to glean airborne goodies, mostly candies.
Around 20 automobiles slowly made their way through Olde Towne Daphne, with members of the homecoming court and football players sitting in the truck beds and on the back seats of cars.
The school has had a parade before the homecoming dance and football game for at least 20 years, Daphne High School Principal Don Blanchard said.
“We’ve been around for 23 years now, and I don’t know if we did one the first year, but definitely at least 20 years,” he said.
