Daphne leaders discuss rotating council presidency seat

DAPHNE, Ala. — The Daphne City Council discussed rotating the council president title as the new fiscal year approaches, and a few names were suggested.

Councilman Bailey Yelding proposed Councilman Ron Scott for the seat, while councilman John Lake suggested Councilman Derek Boulware. Scott proposed Councilwoman Cathy Barnette for the title August Palumbo occupies.

Yelding said he did not want the title.

Palumbo has held the title for one year, and he had it before former councilman Greg Burnham.

Rotating presidency started two years ago.

Meeting time debated

The council also discussed moving the meeting time of council meetings to 6 p.m. instead of the current time of 6:30 p.m. Councilmen Kelly Reese and Lake asked to keep meetings at 6:30 p.m. while Barnette and Scott requested an earlier time.

“From citizens’ standpoint, it’s good for them and gets them home a little earlier,” Scott said.
