Daphne man charged in alleged dowel assault

BAY MINETTE, Ala. — A Daphne man has been charged with second-degree assault after allegedly striking another male with a wooden dowel causing broken bones, bruises and other injuries, according to a Baldwin County District Court affidavit.

Joshua Taylor Pirtle, 27, of Caroline Avenue, was arrested by Daphne police Dec. 13, three days after the alleged assault. He has been released on a $5,000 bond, and awaits a Baldwin County grand jury review of the case.

According to court records, Pirtle struck Zachary Movelle in the head and body numerous times, causing a scalp laceration, a broken finger, a fractured wrist and multiple bruises and abrasions.
