Daphne man confesses to killing his roommate, police say

DAPHNE, Ala.—Shaun Carmedelle, 32, told investigators he strangled Steven McCullough, 43, with two electric cords during a fight Saturday morning, police said.

Carmadelle has been charged with capital murder and will be transferred to the Baldwin County Correctional Facility today.

Preliminary autopsy reports indicate strangulation and medical examiners ruled McCullough’s death a homicide.

The Daphne Police Department brought the suspect into custody with assistance from the Baldwin County District Attorney’s Office, the FBI, the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office and the Alabama Department of Forensic Science.

On Monday, Daphne police officers arrested Carmadelle on an unrelated charge and later identified him as a person of interest in connection with the weekend homicide investigation.

Police on Sunday found McCullough dead in his unit at Grande Pointe Apartments. Police were called to the scene for a welfare concern.

Investigators said they believe Carmadelle was the last person to see the victim alive and said he was in possession of the victim’s vehicle after his death. The vehicle has been recovered and the FBI is assisting in processing the vehicle.
