Daphne Planning Commission approves annexation of Audubon apartments

DAPHNE, Ala.— The Daphne planning commission voted 7-0 to approve a request from Audubon Holdings LLC to annex a 19-acre parcel into the city and will give a favorable recommendation to the city council.

The parcel is southeast of the intersection of Pollard Road and County Road 64 and is contiguous with current city limits to the east and west. The property would be zoned R-4, which is high-density residential zoning.

Meredith Turpin, representative for Audubon Holdings, L.L.C. approached the commission with the request.

The property currently houses 262 apartment units and is zoned RMF-6, or multiple family district, in Baldwin County. The surrounding zoning usages near the property include local business, multi-family Baldwin County, single-family residential for Baldwin County, mutli-family townhomes and multi-family apartment district. The property is currently serviced by Daphne Utilities and Riviera Utilities.

Phase 2 of the apartment complex was annexed into the city in 2007, Turpin said, and the developer wanted to annex Phase 1 into the city as well.
