DAPHNE, Ala.— Daphne police officers arrested a man’s roommate on an unrelated charge and later identified him as a person of interest in connection with a weekend homicide investigation.

Police on Sunday found Steven McCullough, 43, dead in his unit at Grande Pointe Apartments. Police were called to the unit for a welfare concern. Shaun A. Carmadelle, 32, McCullough’s roommate, was taken into custody Monday as a person of interest. Carmadelle was arrested on unrelated charges.

Investigators said they believe Carmadelle was the last person to see the victim alive and said he was in possession of the victim’s vehicle after his death. The vehicle has been recovered and the FBI is assisting in processing the vehicle.

McCullough’s body has been sent to the Alabama Department of Forensics for an autopsy. Cause of death will depend on the autopsy’s results.

The Baldwin County District Attorney’s office, the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Department, the Baldwin County Coroner and the FBI are assisting the Daphne Police Department to solve this case.

Anyone with information about McCullough’s death are asked to call the police department at 251-621-9100 or 251-621-2839.
