Daphne police investigate fatal wreck

DAPHNE — Police are investigating a fatal car crash that happened on Friday morning on Highway 98 in Daphne.

According to Daphne police, Chequita Chaney Grier, 47, was killed in the crash when a single driver heading northbound on Highway 98 collided with her stationary vehicle at a stop sign on Pickett Avenue. Grier was pronounced dead at the scene.

Grier’s car was carrying three other passengers, two children and their mother. They were airlifted to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola. The two children, ages 3 and 5, remain in critical condition at the hospital. Their mother has been listed in stable condition.

Their identities have not been released yet.

“We have been getting various reports as to the cause of the accident,” Police Chief David Carpenter said. “We are still investigating the cause of this accident. Because there was a fatality, charges could be filed.”

No charges are pending as of this report.
