DAPHNE, Ala.—The Daphne Police Department announced that 79-year-old Daphne resident John Roth went missing Tuesday morning.

He is about 5 feet, 10 inches and weighs about 185 pounds, police stated.

Roth’s family reported him missing to the police department at 11:33 a.m. today.

Roth has dementia, the police stated, and he is not familiar with the area because he recently moved to the city from Illinois. Dementia is a loss of cognitive brain functioning, including memory.

“He moved down here with his family less than a week ago and they’re just getting settled in here,” Daphne Police Department Lieutenant Judson Beedy said. “They went to the store to run some errands, and when they got back he had left with the car.”

Roth is driving a blue 2004 Subaru Forrester, police said, and the license plate number is unknown at this time, but it is an Illinois-issued license plate.

“(The car) is a little bit bigger than a station wagon,” Beedy said. It’s kind of in between a station wagon and an SUV.”
