Daphne police search for suspect believed to be armed and dangerous

DAPHNE, Ala.— The Daphne Police Department is working with the U.S. Marshal office in Mobile to catch a suspect deemed armed and dangerous.

Eddie Wayne Hobbs, Jr., 20, of Daphne has multiple active warrants for his arrest, including a federal warrant for possession of a stolen weapon. Hobbs also has warrants for carrying a pistol without a permit, disorderly conduct, reckless endangerment, discharging a firearm in city limits and six failure to appear in court warrants.

Lt. Jud Beedy with the Daphne Police Department said Hobbs was the passenger in a vehicle involved in a high-speed chase with the Daphne Police Department; when the vehicle stopped, Hobbs exited the vehicle and took off on foot. When police apprehended him, he was found to be in possession of a stolen firearm without a permit, police said.

Beedy said a warrant was later issued for Hobbs discharging a firearm within city limits. The police department responded to shots fired in the Daphmont area, but didn’t find a suspect or a victim. Shell casings at the scene were later found by the Alabama Department of Forensic Science to be from the same gun Hobbs was in possession of after the high-speed chase, police said.

The Daphne Police Department said anyone with any information about the whereabouts of Hobbs should contact the Daphne Police Department at 251-621-2839.
