Daphne preparing for three-day zydeco festival

DAPHNE, Ala.—The city of Daphne will once again be grooving to zydeco music while enjoying crawfish.

The city will host its seventh annual Gulf Coast Zydeco Music and Crawfish festival on May 20-22 at the Daphne Civic Center.

The festival will feature seven bands and at least 11 sets of music to enjoy. The bands to perform include Geno Delafose and French Rockin’ Boogie, Curley Taylor and Zydeco Trouble, Leon Chavis and the Zydeco Flames, Corey Ledet and His Zydeco Band, Leroy Thomas and the Zydeco Roadrunners, Terry and Zydeco Bad Boys, T Broussard and Zydeco Steppers, Mary Jane Broussard and Creole LaLa and Jeffery Broussard and the Creole Cowboys.

There will also be dance instruction during the event, which will feature vendors displaying various wares.

Tickets for the festival are on sale now for $20 for a one-day pass and $50 for a three-day pass. Children 12 and under get in free.

Doors for the festival open at 5:30 p.m. on Friday with the first musical act, Leroy Thomas and the Zydeco Roadrunners, taking the stage at 6:15 p.m. Friday evening’s musical entertainment will finish at midnight. On Saturday, the doors will open at 1 p.m. and close at 11:30 p.m. Sunday’s festival hours are 12:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
