Daphne Public Library’s summer reading program kicks off June 6

DAPHNE, Ala. — The Daphne Public Library’s 2011 Summer Reading Program “One World, Many Stories” kicks off at the Daphne Civic Center on June 6 from 10 a.m. till 12 p.m. 

At the kick-off, you can sign up for  all story times, pick up book bags with your summer reading logs, watch a martial arts presentation and enjoy free ice cream and popcorn.

There will be a clown with balloon animals and a tattoo table.

Sign up for the following story times:

r Lap Babies (0 to 23 months), Tuesdays at 10 a.m. 

r Preschoolers (2 to 4 years), Wednesdays at 9:30 a.m., 11 a.m., and 2 p.m.

r Juniors (kindergarten through second grade), Thursdays at 9:30 a.m., 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.

r Tweens (third- through fifth-graders), Tuesdays, 1:30 to 2:30pm.

There will be special workshops offered including magic workshop and zumba classes based on the age category.

Summer readers can record the books they read on their reading log and receive a prize for every log they complete. 

Readers should indicate chapter books and list the number of pages for each book on their log. All summer readers who complete the summer reading program will receive a special prize.

At the end of the reading program, those who have read the most books in for their age group will win a prize if they place in the top three. 

For those who are not reading on their own yet, any books read to them by parents, sitters, librarians, siblings or others may be recorded on their reading logs as well.
