Daphne Elementary would like to congratulate Ms. Palmer on being awarded the Alabama’s Outstanding Administrator for Reading Award. This award was presented to her in Birmingham at the Alabama Reading Conference.

Third-grader Anna Claire Nolfe will be making her final collection for her Red Ribbon project, Pennies for Pets on Friday. The class that collected the most money for this project will be treated to a pizza party. The winning class will be announced on Monday.

Ms. Jackson’s kindergartners are having a great time learning about the first Thanksgiving and the different family traditions in their own classroom. They are preparing to cook and eat a fabulous Thanksgiving feast. The students will also be making their very own buckskin shirts to wear to the feast! After the Thanksgiving holiday the class will be learning about their five senses. They could not think of a better way to explore all five of their senses than by baking and tasting gingerbread men cookies!

Ms. Ferry and her class are going to celebrate Turkey Day in the classroom with a traditional Thanksgiving Feast! The parents are going to be bringing in turkey and cheese rolls ups, broccoli casserole, corn, mashed potatoes, and dessert. They are even bringing in the drinks, plates, and utensils. Ms. Ferry has the best parents in the world—the children and Ms. Ferry appreciate all the hard work they put in to make their class parties special.

Mrs. Utsey’s class is learning about the country’s past including the pilgrims and Indians. The students have been talking about family traditions. They are looking forward to celebrating their Thanksgiving feast with parents tomorrow. Mrs. Utsey is so thankful for such a wonderful class and supportive parents! Congratulations to Preston Stapleton for being chosen as the Shining Star of the Week.

Mr. Bellmyer’s, Mrs. Bowen’s and Mrs. Moorer’s classes are beginning a unit on Native Americans.  They will compare and contrast where they lived, the homes they built and the foods they ate.

Ms. Bryant’s students are learning about the coordinate plane and how to plot points. Also, they are continuing their lesson on bar graphs and line graphs this week.

Third-graders in Mrs. Megginsons’ class have enjoyed disguising a turkey. The students turned their turkey into the BFG, which is a book about “the big friendly giant.”

Mrs. Peturis’ class is learning about Native American story-telling.  The students wrote their own stories about how something came to be. Kennedy wrote about how the dolphin got its long nose, and Jacob wrote about how the snake got is forked tongue.

In first grade, the students have been studying about communities in social studies, dinosaurs in science, and double-digit numbers in math.  They are creating some interesting turkeys in celebration of the Thanksgiving holiday.

The second-graders have been busy learning about technology in the computer lab and weather and erosion. The students are also learning about Veterans Day and have been noting the important facts about the holiday.

Third-grade students are learning about the Native American traditions. They are also studying about the water cycle in science and learning their multiplication facts in math. They have started working on science experiments to go along with their lessons. In Ms. Garl’s class, the students created paper mache turkeys and torn-paper cornucopias.

In fourth grade, the students are learning all about ecosystems, the Trail of Tears, and long division. They will be creating examples of ecosystems to be put on display and have created great examples of acrostic poetry.  Way to go!

In sixth grade, the students are studying about Egypt in their reading classes. In Mrs. Fountain’s room, the students are working on an ancient Egyptian burial chamber project and have created a cartouche with their names.
