DAPHNE, Ala.—The work done by Daphne’s Public Works Department is visible throughout the city, but many residents are unfamiliar with the department that keeps the streets clean and maintains the public areas of the city.

Residents will get a chance on Wednesday to get a glimpse into the public works department as a part of National Public Works Week. The city council also issued a proclamation honoring the work of the public works department.

“Public works services provided in our community are an integral part of our citizens’ everyday lives…,” the proclamation, in part, read.

The exposition of the public works department will be open to the public on May 18 at Lott Park from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Mayor Fred Small said more than 800 schoolchildren are already scheduled to attend the exposition.

Daphne Utilities will be providing hot dogs and Daphne Recreation will be providing popcorn. Water and drinks will also be provided.

“It is really a fun time even if you are not a kid, to actually come out and see the equipment that public works uses and talk to the people that operate them,” Small said.
