FOLEY - The Daphne Trojans came back from an early deficit to win the first game, then rallied around an injured teammate to finish off the Foley Lions 25-23, 25-12, 25-18 in volleyball on Tuesday night.

Foley (2-1) jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first game and led by as much as seven points late, but Daphne (3-4) rallied to win game one 25-23.

“We just came out flat in the first game,” Daphne head coach Kay Flarity said. “Foley had a great server who got seven points in a row, then the next server gave us trouble, too. We figured out how to read where they were going and were able to turn things around.”

Foley coach Chad Anderson said his team lost confidence after giving up the lead.

“I am trying to build confidence with this team,” Anderson said. “They have all the athletic ability in the world, but they don't have much confidence. We are up there with anybody as far as athleticism, we just don't have enough confidence yet.”

Early in the second game, Daphne senior setter Brooke Carpenter went down with a leg injury. The Lady Trojans outscored Foley 18-8 to finish out the second game after Carpenter's injury.

“When she went down, the team really rallied around her,” Flarity said. “The girls wanted to win it for her.”

For Daphne, Deana Vogler had six kills, Cherilyn Ramsey had three blocks and Sierra Patterson had nine digs.

Hannah Younce led Foley with 10 assists and two aces. Summer Collins and Megan Haber had six aces each, and Lisa Alms had nine kills for the Lions.

“This was definitely a group effort,” Flarity said. “After Brooke went down we had to do some shifting and use some bench players in ways they haven't been used before. Everyone did well, from our front row to our back.”
