Daphne resident Lets Freedom Reign

Joy Turner, a Daphne resident and native Mobilian, a new patriotic song she wrote, titled, "America Let Freedom Reign," for the Azalea Republican Women's meeting in Mobile at Heron Lakes Country Club, and will be performing the song at Fairhope Yacht Club for the Eastern Shore Republican Women in the month of March for their luncheon. She also sang it in the Ms. Senior Baldwin Pageant as an introduction to the song.

Written more than 25 years ago, the music was performed by the Mobile Pops Band and a 150-voice community choir. It has been lying dormant all these years and Turner felt the time was right in our country for this song to be heard again. It is her passion that this music becomes a new patriotic song for America. She believes that music can speak to the history within a person and also to future hopes and dreams. Music stirs the soul and can touch the hearts of people. It is her prayer that this song about our precious freedoms and honoring God, our country, and our flag will have a profound effect on the people of this nation. The words are easy to remember and the melody stays with you. It can be seen on YouTube or Google by typing in the title of the song.

Turner has written more than 200 songs and has sung several of her compositions over the years at her church. A country-pop song won a song writing contest several years ago and was played on local radio stations across the Southeast. She also had one of her religious songs, titled "Refresh Me", published.

She began singing for audiences about the age of 5—an answer to her mother's prayer before she was born. Although she has sung all of her life with no professional training, she does not profess to be a great singer, but does have a passion for music and enjoys song writing.

She said her Christian music is totally inspired by the Lord. The patriotic song, words and melody was written in about thirty minutes, admitting that no way could she have done that without God's inspiration.

Having been in adult choir since the age of 13 and in her current church choir at Faith Family Fellowship (formerly Old Spanish Fort Baptist Church) for 45 years, Turner said she truly loves singing Christian music and that it really touches her heart and life. She also enjoys singing with the Eastern Shore Baptist Church in Daphne for their special music programs.

Always an optimist, she believes in America and in her song having a place in history.
