Daphne schools put on lock-down during search for suspected burglar

DAPHNE, Ala. - On Sept. 6, The Daphne Police received a call from a resident of Old County Road in Daphne of a burglary in progress. The resident saw two black males go to the front of their neighbor’s house, then to the back of the victim’s house and eventually kicked in the side door. The neighbor called the Daphne Police and gave a description of the suspects and their vehicle. One suspect left the scene in an older model, what is believed to be a Toyota, white in color. The tag on the suspect’s vehicle is believed to be out of Mississippi.

The Daphne Police arrested Trey Anthony Hendon of St. Stephens Road in Mobile for third-degree burglary after a two-hour search and foot chase. The Daphne Police, along with the Baldwin County Sheriff’s department and their K-9 arrested Hendon in the Potters Mill subdivision where he was found hiding under a camper in a fenced back yard. The schools in the area, including Christ the King, Bayside Academy and W.J. Carroll Elementary were notified of the chase and went into lock-down until Hendon was arrested. At no time was Hendon on any school property.

The Daphne Police Department received numerous calls from the public with information about the location of Hendon. The citizens of Daphne assisted in the arrest of Hendon and the Daphne Police would like to thank everyone who called about this crime and foot chase. This is a good example of citizens working with the police to solve crimes.
