DAPHNE, Ala. — The No. 6 ranked Daphne Trojans put the big hurt on the Robertsdale Golden Bears, a flawless shutout 35-0 at Jubilee Stadium.

The Trojans, who have already clinched the No. 2 spot in 6A Region 2 playoff action, right behind the Foley Lions, quickly racked up points on the scoreboard, scoring four touchdowns in the first quarter alone.

On their opening drive, senior quarterback Coley White drove his team 80 yards in less than three minutes on seven plays, coming mainly from one short 11-yard pass, and the long-trots of Auburn commitment Reggie Hunt, who galloped 24 and 19 yards, the latter for an effortless touchdown, giving the Trojans (8-1, 5-1, 6A Region 2) an early 7-0 lead.

The Golden Bears (0-9, 0-6, 6A Region 2) started the game on their own 20, but a few plays later, a gang of Trojans’ stripped Jamar Carter of the ball as he tried to run up the middle, was stonewalled and then ripped of the possession by a Daphne-D, which has not allowed more than 16 points this season.

White and company took over possession in Golden Bear territory on the 34, and it took only one play, Daphne’s eighth of the game, a 34-yard bomb to Hunt for the touchdown, taking the Trojans up 14-0 with seven minutes remaining in the first quarter.

And on the Golden Bears’ next possession, another turnover would convert into Daphne points as Robertsdale senior quarterback Nathan Wells, who threw 2-of-12 for 11 yards and three interceptions for the game, was picked by Phillip Blackwell.

Blackwell nearly scored on the pick, running the ball deep into Golden Bear territory and almost to the goal line, but a holding penalty against the Trojans would bring the ball back to the 22-yard line.

And again it would only take one play as White, who went 4-of-4 with 70 yards and two touchdowns in the first half and sat out the second, dropped back and nailed Antoine Green for a 22-yard touchdown pass with 4:35 remaining in the first quarter, pushing ahead the routing of the Golden Bears, 21-0.

Then the Trojans’ special teams added to the onslaught when a Golden Bears punt landed in the hands of third-string quarterback Brent Cunningham as he galloped practically untouched 70 yards for the score: Trojans 28, Golden Bears 0 with two minutes to go in the first.

Wells was intercepted again midway through the second quarter setting the Trojans up near mid-field.

Hunt ran a sweep and broke free, trotting 47 yards, which was followed by a 6-yard smash-mouth run through the middle, courtesy of junior running back Tommy Curry, for the touchdown, taking the Trojans up 35-0 with just under seven minutes remaining in the half.

By halftime, the Trojans had 291 yards of total offense, 70 yards in the air and 221 on the ground, dominating the Golden Bears, which had 60 yards total, 11 yards passing and 49 yards running.

The Trojans lead the overall series against the Golden Bears 8-4.
