MOBILE, Alabama — The Daphne boys went 3-0 in the La Liga flight of the 2012 Southern Shootout, The DHS  Girls went 0-2, with one match canceled due to weather.

“We played pretty well at times, for this time of year,” said Daphne boys and girls coach Rick Andrew. “We’re off to a pretty good start in the region both girls and boys. The first tournament of the year is always a bit of a wake-up call. Playing two games in a day you get to learn even faster how much you still need to learn. The boys had a better tournament, the girls didn’t get to finish because of the weather, but that’s part of this sport. Overall, we have a lot of things to improve on but we are playing at a decent level.”

On Friday, the Trojans defeated Carroll-of-Ozark 4-0, Levi Ehmka (2), Mason Avery and Brandon Roberts scoring; Buckhorn 2-0 with Avery  and

Ehmka each scoring. On Saturday, DHS got a pair of goals from Roberts for a weather-shortened win over Houston Academy.

The Lady Trojans fell 10-0 to Oak Mountain, then 3-1 to Prattville. Andrew said Oak Mountain is one of the best teams he has seen in some time.

“The best girls team, including the Spain Park teams the last two years. They are amazing. I’m glad we got to play them. They taught us a lot and definitely pointed to areas we can improve. They are very skilled and we came out too slow and we have learn to learn to come out strong and turn it up from there.”

Rachael Lane scored for Daphne.

The match with Bayside was canceled.

Both of Daphne’s teams are 2-0 in their 6A region and return to action Thursday at Satsuma in region play.
