SPANISH FORT, Ala. — The Daphne-Spanish Fort Kiwanis Club will host its 2011 Taste of the Towns from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. May 5 at 5 Rivers Delta Resource Center.
“It’s a fun evening, and all of the funds raised from this event go to support our service projects throughout the year,” said Kiwanis member Carolyn Parham.
As of press time, some 33 local restaurants had signed up to showcase their offerings during the event, and Parham said there will also be free beverages “of all sorts,” a silent auction and live music provided by Grand Bay Entertainment.
Traditionally, the club funds Key Club activities at Spanish Fort and Daphne high schools as well as Bayside Academy and provides one scholarship annually to a graduating senior for each school.
In addition, Parham said the group supports the educational foundations supporting both Daphne and Spanish Fort schools, the Alabama Sheriff’s Boys Ranch, Young Life, Jubilee Headstart, Ruff Wilson Youth Club and the Dogwood Trail Maids, among others.
“This is our major fundraiser each year, and it really is just a great opportunity for adults to have fun and support the young people of this community,” Parham said.
Self-professed “foodie” Kaitlyn George of Spanish Fort called Taste of the Towns a “must” for anyone on the hunt for unique culinary delights.
“The local chefs really put on a good show for this. It’s worth every penny,” George said.
Tickets cost $25 and can either be purchased at the door or through any Daphne-Spanish Fort Kiwanis Club member. Anyone interested in attending who does not know a club member personally can call Parham at 251-621-2996 for the names of club members closest to them.
