DAPHNE, Ala. — Vino e Birra, an alcohol store on the corner of Main Street and Daphne Avenue, is hosting a wine and beer festival from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday  in its parking lot.

Tickets cost $25, with some profits going to Smile Train, a non-profit organization that helps pay for surgeries of kids with cleft lip and palate. Each surgery can cost about $250, according to the organization’s website.

Roman Street, a local band, will play at the event, which will offer 35 wines and 10 beers along with food from local vendors.

“I think it’s pretty good,” George McKee, one of the store’s three owners, said. “We’re going to try and make it something local for people to come out to.”

More than 100 tickets have been purchased, McKee said, and more tickets will be available at the event. McKee said he hopes to cap attendance at around 150 people.

McKee said there’s hope the event can become a regular occasion.

“We were talking about doing another one in the spring,” he said.

Vino e Birra opened in May, and the store hopes to raise money for charity as well as giving people a festive event in the heart of the Jubilee City.

“We’re kind of tucked away in a corner here, so it’s kind of hard for people to find us,” said Terry Brown, another of the three owners.

“I love this neighborhood, so we’re kind of trying to promote downtown Daphne, too.”
