FOLEY, Ala. — The Daphne Trojans swept Foley 25-21, 25-14, 25-23 on Tuesday in Class 6A Area 3 play.

Daphne (4-8) trailed for most of the first game but took the lead at 22-21 and scored four straight points to win. The Trojans opened on an 8-0 run in the second game and never trailed. In the third game Daphne led by as many as seven (20-13) but had to fight off a late Foley scoring run that tied the game at 23.

"Foley was not going to let us win that easy," Daphne head coach Edoli Herrion said. "They have come leaps and bounds from last season. They have a really good team and their defense is excellent."

For Daphne Kayla Owens had 17 assists, three aces, three digs and a kill; Sierra Patterson had five kills, three aces and two blocks; Katherine Barr had 14 digs, five aces and four kills and Krista Owens had 11 digs and three kills.

"My setter (Kayla Owens) did a great job distributing the ball, she hit everybody," Herrion said. "Katherine (Barr) had a lot of digs and she was picking up a lot of balls."

Foley coach Kerry Heinz said she was proud of the way the Lions played even in a loss.

"I think the team played great," Heinz said. "I have seen nothing but tremendous improvement since the first time they played. Right now what I have noticed is that the girls are physically there. We are trying to develop a program here at Foley. We are trying to get them to know they can win and will win. They just have to believe it in their minds."

Daphne hosts LeFlore on Thursday. Foley will host McGill-Toolen and Faith Academy on Thursday in a tri-match.
