Daphne to begin Trione Sports Complex repairs soon

DAPHNE, Ala.—The city’s recreation director, David McKelroy, updated the City Council on the Trione Sports Complex repairs at last week’s council meeting.

During a Dec. 11 storm, the complex endured around $75,000 worth of damage, including: eight overturned bleachers; three downed baseball fences; and torn roof shingles on dugouts and the concession stand.

McKelroy said that the city has received quotes on fixing the damage to fences and netting, and replacing damaged bleachers, which will cost around $41,500.

“The shingles and the dugout roofing is what I do not have quotes on,” McKelroy said. “I can play with loose shingles and I can play without bleachers, but I’ve got to have my fences.”

Registration for spring sports starts this weekend, he said. By the second week of February, the fields will need to be available for use, McKelroy said.

“We’ll be repairing the fences,” McKelroy said. “That’s something we’ll try to get done by the second week of February.”

McKelroy also said that the city is still discussing with its insurance company what damage is covered.
