DAPHNE, Ala. — The city of Daphne will host a march and speech on Monday to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

The march will begin at City Hall at 10:30 a.m., and will head down Main Street to the Civic Center, where more programs will be held to celebrate the holiday.

“This is the 24th annual celebration for Baldwin County,” Willie Williams, president of the MLK Jr. Committee, said. “This is a coming of Dr. King’s idea and his hope for this country and this state.

U.S. attorney for the southern district of Alabama, Keyen Brown, will be the guest speaker for the program. He is the first African American U.S. attorney for state of Alabama, Williams said.

The City Council authorized Mayor Fred Small at the Jan. 3 meeting to waive all fees associated with festivities at the Daphne Civic Center. Usually, clean-up and labor fees are around $500 and rental fees are around $900, but the council waived both fees for the occasion.
